Challenges Faced by Farmers in Laxmipur Taluka, Jamui District, Bihar: The Kala PACs Conundrum

In the heart of Laxmipur Taluka in Jamui district, Bihar, farmers find themselves entangled in a disheartening narrative of unfulfilled promises and bureaucratic hurdles with the Kala PACs (Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies). These cooperative societies, meant to facilitate the procurement of agricultural produce, are allegedly falling short of their commitment to the local farmers.

A recent incident sheds light on the plight of a farmer who approached the PACs chairman with a simple request: to purchase his paddy. However, the chairman reportedly remained unresponsive until the farmer resorted to filing a complaint through the PACs call center (1800 1800 110). It was only after the complaint that the chairman expressed willingness to buy the paddy.

Shockingly, the process took an unexpected turn when the chairman, instead of following the standard protocol of providing OTPs or initiating a biometric verification process, stocked the farmer's paddy in the store. The farmer was left in limbo, with no confirmation or acknowledgment of the transaction.

To exacerbate matters, the farmer was called in for biometric verification after several days, contrary to the Bihar government cooperative society's claim of ensuring verification within 48 hours. This discrepancy raises questions about the efficiency and transparency of the system, leaving farmers grappling with uncertainty.

The #Kala_PACS (काला_पैक्स) hashtag serves as a rallying cry on social media, urging authorities to address the issues faced by farmers in Laxmipur Taluka. Farmers and activists are leveraging this hashtag to bring attention to the alleged malpractices within the Kala PACs, emphasizing the need for accountability and swift resolution.

As farmers continue to voice their concerns through various channels, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will take decisive action to rectify the situation and restore faith in the cooperative societies meant to uplift the agricultural community in Bihar. The struggle of these farmers highlights the urgent need for a transparent and responsive agricultural procurement system that truly serves the interests of those toiling on the fields.
